The major tribe of this area are the Rajpoots (RAO and Ranas)Gondal[MUGHAL(Kashmiri)] Jats, and their sub-tribes such as the Gaaara, Shirana, Shahabul ka, Mumnaana(from Momin Khan) and others. The tehsil is also home to other Jat clans such as the Lak, Ranjha, Khoti, Mekan Jethal, Bhin, Ghugh and Jalap.
Immigrants from India settled in Kot Momin in 1947, after the partition of India. They belonged mostly to the Arain, Rajput, Hisar district, Chang, Nihar Pur, Niharsi, and Gujar clans. Other castes include the Sheikhs, Bhatti and Malik.
